WHAT TO DO IF YOU HAVE
A
LOST ANIMAL
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At AniMeals, we are committed to do our best to help reunite you with your
pet. Here are some tips we put together to assist you with your search:
· Do a thorough
search of your property and
surrounding neighborhood. For cats, check indoors – be sure to check
up inside the ceilings & in your cupboards. Outdoors, look up
trees, telephone poles , roofs, under buildings, in sheds, dumpsters, alleys, debris piles, culverts, pipes, holes,
in parks, especially along waterways; anyplace where a cat may be trapped or hiding from fear. Check the tops of your car tires & under your hood where cats sometimes like
to curl up around the engine to get warm. If you have changed
residences, return at times& check for your pet around your old home/neighborhood.
·
Ask your neighbors & people you see
out & about.
·
If you have a non-neutered male, ask around to find out about any non-spayed females
“in heat.” Keep in mind that an unspayed female will attract males from miles around. A male will be attracted to females as early as 16 weeks or 4 months of age (6
months for dogs). If you have a non-spayed female, even if she is young, ask around about any intact, or
non-neutered males. Keep in mind, she may be out cavorting with all
the male cats/dogs within miles.
·
Sometimes, cats just go on ‘walkabouts’ and do
make it back after a few harrowing weeks, months; even years.
Sometimes, people may find a pet far from town & drop it off at veterinarians & shelters at other
towns. If calling other towns, start close to home & work your way
outwards.

them on doors around your neighborhood. Put them up in
shops and stores, the university, veterinarian offices, shelters; even take or send them to places
in other towns. Include the following:

o Area where pet was lost
o Phone numbers/internet sites

AND KEEP
LOOKING!!
Please Note:
Thought should be given to how much private information
is given in Lost & Found notices, either as paper flyers or on internet sites, especially if a reward is
offered. Unfortunately, there have been reports of cruel hoaxes
played on distressed pet owners looking for their pets. Keeping
back some pieces of information, such as one white paw or other distinctions, may help you identify your pet
& a genuine reply from a hoax.
(After
your pet is found, please be sure to remove all posters from public property & inform others who are
aware of the search. This makes it easier for the next person who is looking for
assistance.)
Be sure
to call other shelters and make routine
visits:
